Iran warns any US clash could shut Strait of Hormuz

Any US-Iran conflict would endanger energy security and could result in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Jalal Dehghani Firouzabadi, the secretary of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, warned.

He added that if the strait is closed, “the first country to be harmed is China,” noting that this positions China against war, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.

“If a war happens in the region, energy security will be endangered, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed,” Firouzabadi stressed.

The comments emerged as negotiations with the US continue, with outcomes still uncertain, amid the persistent threat of military conflict and repeated declarations from Iranian military officials of their readiness to challenge and defeat the United States.

On February 10, Donald Trump stated he was weighing the deployment of a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East in preparation for potential military action should talks with Tehran fail.
