Kyiv urges UN commissioner not to give "unbalanced" assessments
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has called unbalanced the assumption of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) about the "discriminatory nature" of the searches in the buildings of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP).
The statement came online on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
Ukraine is a democratic state in which freedom of religion is guaranteed. At the same time, freedom is not the same as the right to engage in activities that undermine national security.
“We urge the OHCHR to refrain from unbalanced political evaluations and base its reports on facts," Nikolenko said.
On March 26, OHCHR suggested that the searches by Ukrainian law enforcers in the buildings of the UOC MP might be "discriminatory".
