G7 reaffirms commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons
The Group of Seven (G7) countries have reiterated their commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, following a ministerial meeting held in Italy.
According to a draft statement, the G7 countries emphasized their determination to ensure Iran does not develop or obtain nuclear arms, Caliber.Az reports per Rusian media.
The draft document reads, "We reaffirm our determination that Iran should never develop or obtain nuclear weapons. We will continue to work among ourselves, as well as with other international partners, to confront Iran's nuclear escalation."
The G7 called on Iran to cease and reverse nuclear activities that lack credible civilian justification and urged the country to cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) without delay.
The ministers underscored that diplomacy remains the most effective tool for addressing the nuclear issue. In addition to nuclear concerns, the meeting strongly condemned Iran's missile attack on Israel, describing it as a significant threat to regional stability. The G7 nations pledged to continue efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
The draft statement also expressed grave concerns over Iran's growing military cooperation with Russia, urging Tehran to halt such interactions. On the human rights front, the G7 called on Iranian authorities to end human rights violations, including the unjust detention of individuals, particularly those with dual nationality or foreign citizenship. The statement further urged Iran to grant access to experts appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council.
