Kremlin says Ukraine conflict long-running, Russia must achieve objectives
The Kremlin has said that Russia’s military operation in Ukraine is part of a long-running conflict and stressed that Moscow remains focused on achieving its stated objectives.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the conflict has lasted for years and remains ongoing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“The conflict in Ukraine has been going on for a long time, but it is very important for Russia to accomplish its objectives and safeguard its interests,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin representative emphasised what he described as the duration of the fighting.
“It is a long-standing one, ‘it has been going on for a long time; the combat phase has been ongoing for five years now, which is a long time,’” he said.
Peskov also commented on Russia’s relations with the United States, using a metaphor to describe the diplomatic deadlock.
“It takes two to tango,” he said. “It takes two to tango, and so far the Americans don’t want to.”
He added that Moscow is not rushing its approach to relations with Washington.
“We’re in no rush,” Peskov noted.
