Moscow vows "tough response" to Germany over anti-Russian actions

Moscow has vowed a tough response to what it described as Germany’s “anti-Russian” actions, accusing Berlin of deliberately escalating tensions between the two countries.

In a statement published on its website, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow had firmly rejected what it called “completely fabricated” allegations by the German authorities concerning Russia’s alleged involvement in an incident at Leipzig Airport.

“Russia has firmly rejected the completely fabricated accusations made by official Berlin regarding Russia’s alleged involvement in the incident that supposedly took place at Leipzig Airport,” the ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry also condemned Berlin’s decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin, saying the measures were being justified by the alleged airport incident.

According to the ministry, the decision represents “another step toward the final destruction of the potential for bilateral relations that was built over generations by Russian and German politicians and diplomats.”

Moscow accused the German authorities of deliberately provoking a further deterioration in bilateral ties.

“Berlin deliberately resorted to an outright provocation aimed at escalating Russian-German relations. The actions of the German authorities will receive a tough response,” the ministry stressed.
