Turkish president says Greece must stop weaponising islands

02 September 2026 14:55

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called on Greece to stop weaponising the islands in the Aegean Sea, stating that anyone who interprets Türkiye’s calm and sensible approach as weakness is making a serious mistake.

Addressing the Greek administration, he said Türkiye will do what is necessary, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

Erdoğan stressed that the limits should not be tested, adding that disregarding international agreements would benefit no one.

He warned that Greece must turn back from this wrong path it has taken.

Drawing attention to historical responsibility and regional stability, Erdoğan continued his warnings:

“Greece must abandon this wrong path it has embarked on and stop arming islands with demilitarised status. History is a very good guide for those who learn its lessons. We will continue working for peace, security and stability in our region.”
