02 September 2026 14:41

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Mukhtar Tleuberdi as foreign minister, a post he previously held from 2019 to 2023.

Under a presidential decree, Tleuberdi was relieved of his previous post as Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Austria, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

In August 2023, Tleuberdi was appointed Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria and Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to international organisations in Vienna.

In April of the same year, he left the post of foreign minister.

Tleuberdi graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and Economics of S.M. Kirov Kazakh State University. He also completed internships at the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University and the Institute of Languages at Yonsei University in South Korea.

After completing his studies, he worked at the departments of History of Philosophy and Chinese Philology at Al-Farabi Kazakh State University.

Tleuberdi began his diplomatic career at Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993 as an attaché.
