Armenia to keep Russian gas supplies, official says

Armenia does not plan to change its current gas supply arrangements with Russia and Iran, says Hovhannes Abrahamyan, an official at Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.

Asked whether Iranian gas could become an alternative to Russian supplies in the event of potential supply disruptions, Abrahamyan stated that Yerevan is currently taking no additional measures in this regard, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

Abrahamyan explained that Russian gas is supplied to Armenia under existing agreements.

Iranian gas is supplied under a “gas-for-electricity” arrangement, with Armenia compensating Iran for the gas received by supplying electricity.

Iran supplies Armenia with more than 400 million cubic metres of gas annually, which is used to operate several thermal power plants.
