Former Armenian defence minister accused of housing fraud

Armenia’s Investigative Committee has completed a preliminary investigation into a criminal case involving former Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan and the allocation of flats.

The Military Investigative Department said investigators had obtained evidence indicating that Ohanyan, while serving as defence minister, exceeded his official powers with the assistance of members of the ministry’s Central Housing Commission, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

It said the alleged actions caused significant harm to the rights and legitimate interests of several people.

The supervising prosecutor has initiated a public criminal case against Ohanyan under Part 1 of Article 441 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which covers abuse of official position, authority or influence, as well as abuse of power.
