IRGC says it stopped oil tanker in Hormuz as US intercepts missiles

06 June 2026 11:16

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it intercepted one of four oil tankers attempting to leave the Strait of Hormuz early on Saturday, June 7, after issuing a warning, while the remaining vessels turned back.

In a statement, cited by Iran International, the IRGC said the warning was delivered at 1:30 a.m., prompting three of the tankers to reverse course, while one vessel was stopped.

The Guards also reported that US drones struck two communications towers in southern Iran approximately one hour later. According to the statement, the strikes targeted a tower on Qeshm Island and another in the town of Sirik at around 2:30 a.m., using two projectiles.

In response, the IRGC said its aerospace forces launched ballistic missiles targeting the US Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait and facilities associated with the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.

US Central Command said American forces intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz. It added that there were no immediate reports of injuries among US personnel.

The command also rejected Iranian claims that the headquarters of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain had been damaged.
