Russia’s Rosatom eyes major Saudi Arabia nuclear tender

Rosatom is holding talks with Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) regarding participation in a tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Saudi Arabia continues to conduct a tender for selecting vendors for the construction of large power plants. We are actively participating, using the forum for negotiations on this issue, and we feel comfortable, we feel strong interest in this work from our Saudi friends,” Likhachev noted. 

The Rosatom CEO also provided an update on nuclear construction in Egypt, describing it as a major ongoing project.

“Construction in Egypt is in full swing; this is currently the largest and most powerful construction project on the planet,” he said. “This year we plan to install the reactor vessel for the second unit and aim to begin commissioning works on the first unit in 2028.”
