Armenia enters pre-election “day of silence” ahead of vote
Armenia has entered a legally mandated “day of silence” ahead of parliamentary elections, during which all forms of campaigning are prohibited.
The restriction took effect at midnight, in line with electoral rules governing the vote for the National Assembly, the country’s highest legislative body, Caliber.Az reports referring to Armenian press.
Voters are due to go to the polls on Sunday, June 7, to elect members of the 9th convocation of parliament.
At least 105 lawmakers will be elected, although the final number could increase if provisions in the electoral framework are triggered to allocate additional mandates to certain political forces.
The elections are being conducted under a fully proportional representation system, with seats distributed exclusively based on party lists.
A total of 18 political entities—comprising 16 parties and two alliances—are contesting the vote. The electoral threshold is set at 4% for individual parties and 8% for alliances seeking representation in parliament.
