Turkish FM heads to Syria to discuss Kurdish forces’ integration into army

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will discuss the integration of Kurdish formations into the Syrian army, Israeli aggression and efforts to strengthen state institutions during his visit to Syria, a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry told TASS.

“Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Syria on September 13-14. He will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the multifaceted efforts supported by Türkiye to establish stability, peace and prosperity in Syria, as well as the significant progress achieved in bilateral relations,” the source said.

“Events related to the integration process in Syria, which is of particular interest to Türkiye, including the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF, Kurds), will be discussed. Fidan will also emphasize the importance of implementing the decisions adopted in this regard in a timely manner,” the source added.

The Turkish minister is also expected to “discuss the situation in southern Syria and steps that could be taken jointly with the international community in response to Israel’s aggression, which is increasingly threatening Syria’s security and stability.”

On the bilateral agenda, Fidan will “reaffirm Türkiye’s commitment to further strengthening the institutional structure and legal framework of ongoing cooperation with Syria in various areas, including trade, energy, transport and infrastructure,” according to the report.
