Trump reaches out to Tokayev with personal message at BRICS summit

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, during which Gor conveyed a personal message from US President Donald Trump congratulating Tokayev ahead of Kazakhstan’s 35th Independence anniversary.

In turn, Tokayev thanked Trump for his warm wishes and reiterated his invitation to the American leader to visit Kazakhstan, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh presidential press service. 

The president noted the dynamic development of the expanded Kazakh-US strategic partnership, emphasizing the particular importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

“I am currently preparing to take part in the G20 Summit in Miami. I believe this will also be a good opportunity to discuss the issues on the bilateral agenda. We prefer not fine words, but tangible results and practical steps to advance our mutual cooperation,” the Kazakh leader said.

Gor noted that close and trusting contacts between the leaders of Kazakhstan and the United States had brought bilateral relations to an unprecedentedly high level.

“Today, trade and economic ties and cooperation between our countries are actively developing. Our President attaches great importance to strengthening the partnership with Kazakhstan and Central Asia,” the special envoy said.

The meeting also addressed a number of important areas of joint work, with a focus on such priorities as artificial intelligence and digitalization.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding their multifaceted partnership and giving additional impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation.
