NATO: Russia pulling out fighter jets from Crimea after explosions

26 August 2022 15:48

Russia has begun withdrawing its aircraft from the occupied Crimea following a series of explosions, hereby trying to prevent further attacks.

Russia has already deployed 10 aircraft, including six Su-35S fighter jets and four MiG-31BM interceptors, Business Insider reports citing NATO's report issued on August 22.

The report reads there are still 32 Russian fighter jets at the airfield in the Belbek village. Most of them are SU-27 fighters, as well as modernised SU-35S and MiG-31BM.

Russia has also deployed more tactical surface-to-air missiles to Crimea to counter attacks, especially to destroy drones.

"Ukrainian UAVs are difficult for Russian air defence systems to identify as targets. This problem is common among all the forces that Russia is deploying in Ukraine," the report reads.

NATO is sure that it is the Ukrainian forces that stand behind the explosions in Crimea, which act "in a partisan style".
