Orban seeks to promote peace between Russia and Ukraine

05 July 2024 13:49

Hungary acknowledges that major powers will organize talks between Russia and Ukraine but aims to encourage the conflicting parties to reach a peace agreement.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made this statement during a morning program on Kossuth radio station, Caliber.Az reports.

"Hungary is aware of its place and its weight; big negotiations will be handled by big countries," Orban said. However, he emphasized that Hungary "would like to encourage the parties" to initiate negotiations.

Orban explained that this was his goal during his visit to Kyiv on July 2, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Orban arrived in Moscow on July 5. During his visit, he plans to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, the government spokesman, Bertalan Havasci, has said.
