President Aliyev inaugurates new energy, water facilities in Yevlakh PHOTO

23 June 2025 12:40

On June 23, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev participated in a series of important events in the city of Yevlakh, marking significant progress in the country’s infrastructure development.

The President officially inaugurated the Central Aran Regional SCADA Control Center of “Azerishig” OJSC, a key facility aimed at enhancing the automation and reliability of electricity distribution in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

On the same day, President Aliyev also attended the opening ceremony of the 110/35/10 kV “Yevlakh” Junction Substation and the Regional Training and Laboratory Center of “AzerEnergy” Open Joint Stock Company, further strengthening the energy sector’s capacity and technical expertise.

In addition to energy infrastructure, the President inaugurated a new sand filter-free water treatment facility in Yevlakh, representing a significant upgrade to the city’s water purification system and ensuring cleaner, safer water for residents.

Continuing his visit, President Aliyev reviewed the ongoing construction of the Yevlakh Olympic Sports Complex, which promises to boost local sports infrastructure and community development.

Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov briefed the head of state on the progress of the project.

The complex is being built as part of the “State Programme on Socio-Economic Development of the Regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan,” approved by a presidential decree. Construction began in January 2024.

The main building will house a multi-purpose sports hall with a seating capacity of 1,100 spectators. The facility is designed to host training sessions and competitions in basketball, volleyball, handball, minifootball, badminton, gymnastics, judo, wrestling, taekwondo, boxing, karate, and other sports. It will also include an 80-seat conference hall, rooms for referees, doctors, coaches, and commentators, as well as a café. The complex will feature a four-story hotel with 21 rooms accommodating 42 guests, along with a restaurant. Additionally, a football pitch meeting international standards with a seating capacity of 1,300 spectators and two minifootball fields will be built.

The boxing competitions of the 3rd Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Games, scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan at the end of September this year, will take place at the Yevlakh Olympic Sports Complex.

Lastly, the President inspected the construction progress of the highway section connecting Baku–Alat–Gazakh to the State Border with Georgia, which passes through Yevlakh. This strategic transport route is vital for regional connectivity and economic growth.

Saleh Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, briefed the head of state on ongoing construction activities.

Construction of the underground pedestrian crossing and sidewalks on the highway section passing through Yevlakh, along with the approach roads providing two-way vehicle access, is nearing completion. The pedestrian crossing will have a total length of 48 meters, of which 37 meters will be enclosed. The approach roads, each 7 metres wide, will stretch a total of 3.2 kilometres.

The Baku–Alat–Gazakh–State Border with Georgia highway is part of an international transport corridor passing through Azerbaijan. The modernisation of this highway strengthens Azerbaijan’s role in international transport, as the country is situated at the crossroads of the East-West and North-South transport corridors.
