President Aliyev hails Jewish community’s role in Azerbaijan’s social cohesion

President Ilham Aliyev has congratulated the Jewish community of Azerbaijan on Rosh Hashanah, praising the country’s longstanding tradition of religious and ethnic tolerance and the community’s contribution to civic solidarity.

In his message addressed to the Jewish community, Aliyev described Rosh Hashanah as “one of the most cherished holidays of the Jewish people” and extended his heartfelt wishes to his fellow compatriots, Caliber.Az reports.

He emphasised Azerbaijan’s historical role as a place where different civilisations have converged, fostering social relations grounded in “mutual respect and trust, friendship and brotherhood” among representatives of different peoples and faiths.

“In modern Azerbaijan, democratic and legal conditions are ensured for the fundamental human rights and freedoms of everyone, regardless of language, religion, or ethnic origin,” the president stressed.

Against the backdrop of the country’s centuries-old tradition of ethnic and religious tolerance, the Jewish community continues to preserve its national and spiritual values, language and culture while actively participating in Azerbaijan’s socio-cultural life, Aliyev said.

He also highlighted the community’s “unique contribution to strengthening civic solidarity” as Azerbaijan undergoes a period of development and progress.

Concluding his message, Aliyev said Rosh Hashanah symbolises “renewal, spiritual purity, and feelings of kindness and solidarity,” and wished members of the Jewish community happiness in their families and abundance at their tables.
