Russian diplomat: US cancels talks aimed at fixing diplomatic frictions
Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that a planned meeting between Russia and the US, intended to address ongoing irritants in bilateral relations and normalise the operation of diplomatic missions, has been cancelled at the initiative of the US side.
“At present, the upcoming meeting as part of the bilateral consultations to remove ‘irritants’ and normalise the functioning of diplomatic missions of both countries has been canceled at the initiative of the American negotiators,” Zakharova said, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
She added, “We hope that the pause they have taken will not be too prolonged.”
US Ambassador to Türkiye Thomas Barrack has recently stated that Ankara could facilitate a meeting among the presidents of Türkiye, Russia, Ukraine, and the US. The diplomat believes that such high-level talks will become possible once a number of issues are resolved. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump is open to a potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but prefers to see bilateral peace negotiations directly between Moscow and Kyiv.
