Russian entrepreneur and co-founder of the Euroset mobile phone chain, Evgeny Chichvarkin, has been sentenced in absentia to nine years’ imprisonment in a general regime colony, the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office said.
Chichvarkin, who left Russia in 2008 amid criminal charges related to kidnapping and extortion, had previously been placed on a wanted list in connection with a case involving alleged dissemination of fake news about the Russian armed forces. He has also been openly critical of Russia’s policy toward Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Chichvarkin currently resides in the United Kingdom, where he is involved in the wine and restaurant business.
