Thailand to pursue BRICS membership at upcoming Kazan summit
Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Nikondet Phalangkun has revealed that Thailand has formally expressed its intention to join BRICS as a full member.
Caliber.Az reports via Russian media that Phalangkun stated that Thailand has submitted an official letter to Russia, the current BRICS chair, initiating the process.
Phalangkun highlighted Thailand's strategic move as an effort to bolster its international role and align itself with influential nations shaping the global agenda. He mentioned that discussions regarding Thailand's membership will progress through various levels of deliberation within BRICS, culminating in a decision potentially at the BRICS summit scheduled in Kazan, Russia, in October of this year.
Joining BRICS would allow Thailand to deepen its engagement with a group that not only represents a substantial share of global GDP but also collaborates on issues such as financial stability, energy security, and counter-terrorism.
