IDF confirms use of F-15s in strike resulting in Nasrallah's death
F-15 fighter jets were deployed to attack Hezbollah's underground headquarters in Beirut, resulting in the death of the group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
This information was confirmed by the press service of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Caliber.Az reports.
According to the IDF, the mission was launched from the Israeli Air Force's Hatzerim airbase. The fighter jets dropped 85 one-ton bombs on the target, utilizing “bunker-busting” munitions specifically designed for this type of strike.
The strike occurred while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was addressing the UN General Assembly in New York. During his speech, which garnered mixed reactions from attendees, Netanyahu highlighted the ongoing hostage crisis stemming from Hamas's actions.
Netanyahu stated, “Hamas kidnapped 251 people, dragging them into tunnels in the Gaza Strip. 154 hostages have returned, including 117 alive. I assure you, we will not surrender until all hostages are home.” He dismissed previous statements made by some UN delegates as “lies and slander.”
The Prime Minister further emphasized Israel's military capabilities, asserting, “There is no place in Iran that we could not strike, and the same is true in the Middle East. [...] We are winning this war.” He called for international support for the Iranian people seeking freedom from their regime, alongside stronger sanctions to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Netanyahu claimed that Israel had destroyed 90% of Hamas's rockets and 23 of the 24 Hamas regiments in the Gaza Strip, reaffirming Israel's objective of dismantling the terrorist group. “We will not offer Hamas any role in the post-war landscape; our aim is the demilitarization and deradicalization of Gaza. We are prepared to assist in establishing a civilian administration for peaceful coexistence,” he stated.
Regarding Hezbollah, Netanyahu recalled that the group attacked Israel shortly after October 7, 2023, displacing over 60,000 people and turning them into refugees within their own country. “As long as Hezbollah chooses the path of war, Israel will take action to eliminate this threat,” he declared.
