African Union backs Pakistan–China plan on Iran conflict
The African Union has welcomed a joint five-point initiative proposed by Pakistan and China aimed at resolving the Iran-related conflict through negotiations, according to a report by Al Jazeera.
In a statement described as delayed, the organisation expressed support for the proposal, which seeks to shift the conflict toward a diplomatic track and outlines measures including an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of maritime shipping.
“The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, welcomes the five-point initiative jointly proposed by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East,” the statement said.
