Teen gunman opens fire at Argentina school, one dead

A 15-year-old student opened fire at a school in San Cristóbal, leaving one student dead and eight others injured, according to ABS-CBN.

The shooting took place on the morning of March 30 during a flag-raising ceremony at the Mariano Moreno school. The teenager reportedly brought a shotgun hidden inside a guitar case and began firing in the school courtyard.

A 13-year-old student was killed in the incident. Eight others were injured, including six students who were hurt while trying to flee. Two of the injured were taken to the hospital, one of whom is in serious but stable condition.

“He started shooting into the air, and we all ran,” a student identified as Priscila told local radio station Radio Con Vos.

A school staff member managed to disarm the attacker and take control of the weapon. Classes were immediately canceled and students were sent home.

Authorities have launched an investigation, noting that such incidents of youth violence are extremely rare in Argentina. The identities of the attacker and the victims have not been disclosed.
