Serbia commits €2 million to boost Ukraine’s energy sector
The Government of Serbia and the United Nations Development Programme have signed a €2 million financial agreement aimed at strengthening the resilience of Ukraine’s energy sector, according to an official UN statement.
The funding will be used to procure and deliver high-voltage transformers, which are critical for restoring electricity transmission capacity and ensuring a stable power supply for millions of Ukrainians.
The initiative is part of UNDP’s “green” energy recovery programme. Serbia’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Andon Sapundži, said the assistance reflects Serbia’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people and supports essential services, including hospitals, schools, and residential homes.
UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine Auke Lootsma stated that Serbia’s contribution comes at a crucial stage in the modernisation of the country’s national power grid.
