Sweden sends $28 million to support Ukraine’s air defence

The Swedish government has instructed the country’s armed forces to allocate 270 million kronor ($28.36 million) to various funds and initiatives supporting Ukraine, with a particular focus on air defence, the government office said in a press release.

Of the total, $14 million will be allocated to the U.S.-led Prioritised Requirements List for Ukraine (PURL) initiative. Under the scheme, the United States supplies the Ukrainian Armed Forces with packages of U.S.-made military equipment, with the purchases financed by allies and partner countries.

The packages include air defence systems and ammunition, among other equipment.

Sweden’s latest contribution marks its fifth payment to PURL. Its total contributions to the initiative have now reached $552 million.
