China confirms role as mediator in Pakistan–Afghanistan talks
China has confirmed that it is acting as a mediator in efforts to resolve tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to a statement by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning.
Speaking at a briefing, Mao said Beijing remains in close contact with both countries through multiple channels and is assisting in organising negotiations between them.
“Both Pakistan and Afghanistan highly appreciate and welcome China’s mediation and are ready to sit down at the negotiating table again, which is a positive sign. The negotiation process is proceeding smoothly, and the three sides have reached consensus and agreement on specific practical steps,” she said.
Mao added that China is continuing to play an active role in easing regional tensions and advancing dialogue between the two neighbouring states.
