Trump foresees peace talks as both Ukraine, Russia face limited options
US President Donald Trump has shared his insights into the ongoing efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine, stating that both Ukraine and Russia may be looking to negotiate a peace deal due to limited options.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump explained his perspective on the conflict and the potential for diplomatic talks, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"I think Ukraine wants to make a deal because they don’t have a choice," Trump said, emphasising the pressure on both sides to seek an end to the war.
He further elaborated on Russia’s position, adding, "I also think that Russia wants to make a deal because in a certain different way - a different way that only I know - they have no choice either."
The comments come amid reports that a US delegation is planning to meet with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia to discuss potential pathways for peace. While details of the meeting are still unfolding, the US president was asked whether he would also visit the region to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"I don’t know, I can’t tell you," Trump responded when questioned about the possibility of traveling to meet Putin.
He then confirmed, "I’m going to Saudi Arabia," though he did not elaborate on the nature of his visit.
