Austria vows continued support for Ukraine, foreign minister announces

Austria's newly appointed Foreign Minister, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, has reiterated the country's unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of ongoing conflict with Russia.

In her first public statement since taking office, Meinl-Reisinger highlighted a recent telephone conversation with her Ukrainian counterpart, during which she reassured Kyiv of Vienna's continued support, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.

"I made it clear that Austria's support for Ukraine, as in the past, will remain unchanged in the future," Meinl-Reisinger affirmed, emphasizing Austria's dedication to standing with Ukraine.

During a session of the Austrian parliament, where new cabinet members responded to questions from lawmakers, Werner Kogler, leader of the Greens, inquired about the specifics of Austria’s financial assistance to Ukraine. In her response, Meinl-Reisinger confirmed that Austria has allocated a total of €12.1 million in aid to Ukraine. This financial support is primarily aimed at humanitarian efforts, including demining fields to facilitate the safe transportation of Ukrainian grain.

Despite its ongoing support, Austria has previously ruled out direct involvement in arms deliveries to Ukraine, maintaining its stance of non-participation in military assistance. Austria's position remains focused on humanitarian aid and diplomatic efforts to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As the war in Ukraine continues to escalate, Austria's diplomatic leadership continues to play a role in providing assistance while navigating its policy of neutrality in military matters.
