Trump to visit Camp David amid Iran diplomacy efforts

U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to Camp David this weekend for a rare visit to the presidential retreat, marking only his second trip there since returning to office last year, according to a White House official.

The official told Reuters Trump will hold policy and political meetings during the stay, which will also include time with family over the Father’s Day weekend on June 21.

U.S.–Iran negotiations previously scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland were canceled after renewed fighting in Lebanon. The talks, however, could resume this weekend with reports stating that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi were both en route to Switzerland as Israel and Hezbollah agreed on June 19 to renew a ceasefire. 

Trump last visited Camp David in June 2025 for meetings with senior military leaders and advisers on issues including Iran, immigration protests in California, and the war in Gaza.

The secluded government retreat in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains, located about 70 miles from Washington, has been used less frequently by Trump compared with previous presidents, who have often relied on it for both official meetings and diplomatic engagements. Trump has instead more regularly spent weekends at private properties including Mar-a-Lago in Florida and his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
