US to complete withdrawal of remaining 300 troops from Niger
The Pentagon's deputy spokeswoman, Sabrina Singh, confirmed in a briefing that the United States plans to withdraw remaining military personnel from Niger by September 15.
Currently, approximately 300 US troops remain in Niger, and they are expected to be fully withdrawn by the September deadline, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
This decision follows Niger's termination of a 12-year military cooperation agreement with the US on March 17, which included a demand for the immediate withdrawal of American troops from the country.
As of July 7, all US military personnel had already departed from the 101st military base in Niamey.
Niger's military rulers have already forced French troops out of the country following deteriorating relations with the former colonial power.
The German army is also expected to end its operations at its airbase in Niger by August 31.
The decision was taken following the breakdown of talks with the Sahel country's junta, according to the German Defense Ministry.
