Yerevan rejects role as anti-Russian hub ahead of EPC summit

23 April 2026 11:30

Armenia has no intention of becoming a platform against Russia, Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan said ahead of the European Political Community summit scheduled to take place in Yerevan on May 3–4.

Speaking on Public Television of Armenia, as cited by Caliber.Az, Kostanyan addressed concerns about possible anti-Russian statements at the summit, emphasising that Armenia is pursuing a balanced foreign policy and maintains relations with multiple partners.

“We are developing relations with various countries in different directions. We have no plan to become an anti-Russian platform. Armenia is the host country of the European summit and, as the host, must ensure proper conditions for all participants,” he said.

According to Kostanyan, Armenia has spent the past two to three years preparing to host the summit. He noted that the decision to hold the event in Yerevan reflects a “high level of trust” from European partners.

“This is also a political signal of how Armenia’s relations with the European Union and EU member states are developing,” he added.
