True origins of Iranian angst over the Zangazur Corridor

One of the realities that surfaced in the South Caucasus after the 2020 war between Armenia and Azerbaijan was the Zangazur corridor, an ambitious multi-modal transport route that should connect Azerbaijan with its southwestern Nakhchivan exclave, as well as enable faster and easier connection between Europe and Asia.
The project represented and is currently being implemented by the Azerbaijani government divided the regional and international players into two camps: supporters and opposers. Iran, the southern neighbour of Azerbaijan, is seemingly taking the side of the second front.
