Armenian official rules out unfriendly actions towards Russia

The apparent tension between Armenia and Russia is temporary and will be overcome, Armenian National Assembly Vice President - Head of the Armenia-Russia Interparliamentary Commission Hakob Arshakyan has said.

Arshakyan was commenting on various assessments of the ratification of the Rome Statute by the Armenian parliament, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sputnik Armenia.

“Armenia always pays special attention to our relations with Russia. It is very important for these relations to be based on mutual respect, dignity, and the principles of fulfilling legal obligations to each other,” he noted.

The vice president stressed that Armenia does not intend to take any unfriendly actions towards Russia or its leader.

“Russian colleagues are trying to blame Yerevan. Some Armenian opposition figures are trying to gain dividends in the political arena by creating interstate tension,” he noted.

“We have repeatedly stated that this project is based on the interests of Armenia, and there is a mechanism by which all bilateral issues are resolved. Unfortunately, additional time was not used to implement this mechanism. There is a possibility of signing a bilateral agreement today. I hope that our colleagues in Russia will not continue ignoring it,” Arshakyan said.
