EU to impose sanctions on Chinese, Turkish, Indian companies

21 February 2024 18:57

The European Union (EU) will ban three Chinese firms from exporting to Europe as part of its 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions.

These are the first companies from mainland China to fall under sanctions over allegations of "involvement in supplying secret military technology to Russia," AFP reports, citing officials.

According to the agency, the sanctions list will include firms from Türkiye, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Thailand and Kazakhstan, the number of legal entities is not given. Financial Times writes that the restrictions will also affect one firm from India.

In addition, as AFP writes, North Korean Defense Minister Kang Sun-nam was included in the blacklist. His assets will be frozen and visas will be prohibited. The minister came under sanctions due to accusations against the DPRK of “supplying ballistic missiles” to Russia.
