Egypt expands air force capabilities with purchase of Super Hercules aircraft
Egypt is set to enhance its airlift capabilities with the acquisition of two C-130J Super Hercules aircraft. Announced at the Egypt International Airshow 2024, this deal marks Egypt's entry into the global network of C-130J operators. Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the aircraft, highlighted that the C-130J-30 variant will significantly boost the Egyptian Air Force's ability to conduct tactical missions across North Africa.
Egypt will soon become the latest operator of the C-130J Super Hercules, following a deal for two C-130J-30 aircraft announced at the Egypt International Airshow 2024. Lockheed Martin revealed that this acquisition will enhance the Egyptian Air Force’s tactical airlift capabilities, facilitating improved mission support throughout North Africa, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Lockheed Martin’s Vice President, Rod McLean, expressed pride in welcoming Egypt into the global fleet of C-130J operators, emphasizing the strong partnership between the two nations and Lockheed Martin. With this purchase, Egypt will join 22 other foreign operators of the C-130J, becoming the seventh in the Middle East/North Africa region.
The C-130J Super Hercules, equipped with four turboprop engines, is a robust military transport aircraft. The J-30 variant is particularly notable for its payload capacity of 44,000 pounds (19,958 kilograms), which allows it to transport up to 124 fully-equipped soldiers. It has a maximum speed of 410 miles per hour (659 kilometers per hour) and an operational range of 1,700 nautical miles (3,148 kilometers).
Lockheed Martin highlighted the Super Hercules' proven track record, with over 2,500 aircraft delivered worldwide and more than three million flight hours logged across 63 countries. The company lauded the aircraft's continuous innovation and adaptability, affirming its leadership in setting new standards for tactical airlift missions.
