Ukraine issues stern warning to Iran over potential missiles transfer
Ukraine has issued a grave warning to Iran amid reports that Tehran might be considering transferring ballistic missiles to Russia.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signalled that such a move would have "devastating consequences" for their bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has urged the international community to ramp up pressure on both Tehran and Moscow to safeguard global peace and security. "We call on the world to increase its efforts to compel Tehran and Moscow to respect international norms," the ministry stated.
Ukraine has demanded that Iran immediately cease any weapons transfers to Russia and prove that its political leadership is genuinely committed to not contributing to Russia's military actions. The ministry emphasized, "We warn the Iranian government that confirmation of ballistic missile transfers to Russia will result in severe repercussions for Ukraine-Iran relations."
Earlier, the US National Security Council weighed in on the situation. Sean Savett, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, indicated that if Iran proceeds with transferring ballistic missiles to Russia, it would represent a significant escalation in Iran's support for Russia’s military operations against Ukraine.
Savett described the potential transfer as a “dramatic escalation” in Iran’s involvement, although he did not confirm or deny whether such a transfer had actually occurred.
