Ukraine, UAE discuss security cooperation amid regional tensions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to discuss security cooperation and regional stability, as per the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The leaders focused on the work of the Ukrainian team in the UAE, which supports civilian protection in the country, Caliber.Az reports. 

Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed gratitude for Ukraine’s expert assistance and the experience shared by Ukrainian personnel.

Zelenskyy stressed that the collaboration is important for Ukraine as well, noting that combating terror and ensuring sufficient protection is a global priority.

The Ukrainian president also highlighted Ukraine’s openness to long-term cooperation with the UAE, underlining that strategic collaboration could strengthen both nations and improve protection for civilians.

He said both countries should leverage their capabilities to enhance protection through investment, joint production, and modernisation of critical and social infrastructure systems.

During the meeting, the leaders reviewed the security situation in the UAE and the broader region, including threats from Iran and the impact of the Strait of Hormuz blockade on the global oil market.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine’s experience from years of defending its cities under constant attack had equipped the country with high-efficiency systems for intercepting enemy drones and missiles, and that Ukraine offers this expertise to international partners.

Zelenskyy and Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed potential measures to address current security challenges and agreed to cooperate in defence and security, with teams currently finalising the details of the agreements.
