Chinese firm unveils domestic robot prototype, igniting online debate
Chinese technology company Unipath has introduced a prototype anthropomorphic robot designed to perform the functions of a domestic partner, triggering widespread debate across social media platforms.
A demonstration video showcasing the robot’s capabilities quickly went viral, attracting millions of views and a mix of reactions from the public, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The company describes the device as a multifunctional home assistant capable of handling a wide range of household responsibilities. Its features include managing smart home systems and appliances, maintaining cleanliness, organising storage, and assisting with daily routines. The robot can also act as a personal assistant, helping users wake on schedule and even preparing meals.
Coverage by The Online Citizen highlights a sharply divided public response. Supporters argue that such technology could significantly ease daily life, particularly for individuals living alone or those with demanding work schedules. Critics, however, have raised ethical concerns about the implications of developing machines that replicate human intimacy and traditional family roles.
Experts note that the robot remains in the prototype stage, and the company has not yet announced a release date or pricing for a commercial version.
