Trump: 2026 FIFA World Cup generated over $18 billion for US economy

05 September 2026 11:19

The 2026 FIFA World Cup generated more than $18 billion for the US economy and supported more than 160,000 jobs, US President Donald Trump said, citing the tournament as a major driver of travel, tourism and business activity.

“The FIFA World Cup alone generated more than 18 BILLION DOLLARS for our Economy, and supported more than 160,000 JOBS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, Caliber.Az reports.

Trump also highlighted strong travel activity during the summer, saying Americans travelled nearly 300 billion miles, while US national parks received 78 million visitors and millions of people travelled by air.

He said the administration was working to reduce regulatory barriers, modernise air travel and make it easier for people to visit and do business in the United States.

“AMERICA IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS — AND THE BEST IS YET TO COME!” Trump wrote.

The 2026 World Cup was held across the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19. The tournament featured 48 national teams for the first time.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has previously said the governing body could consider expanding the World Cup further to 64 teams. He told Swiss broadcaster Blue Sport that the possibility could be examined in the future.
