05 September 2026 14:07

The 209.6-meter-long Kosh-Dobo North No. 2 tunnel is the first tunnel to be completed on the Kyrgyz section of the railway, Xinhua reported, citing the project operator. Construction of the tunnel began in June 2025.

Construction is currently underway on 27 tunnels, 43 bridges and 88 sections of the railway embankment, while work has also begun on 20 railway stations.

Once completed, the new railway will link China with Central Asia, running from Kashgar through Jalal-Abad in Kyrgyzstan to Andijan in Uzbekistan.

The railway will be more than 500 kilometres long, with 304.84 kilometres of the line running through Kyrgyzstan.
