Around 70 Russian consulate staff to leave Germany

05 September 2026 12:16

Around 70 staff members of Russia’s Consulate-General in Bonn will leave Germany following the authorities’ decision to close the diplomatic mission, Russian Consul-General Oleg Krasnitsky said.

Speaking to Russian journalists, Krasnitsky said the consulate’s personnel consist of employees seconded from Russia and their family members. He added that the mission does not employ foreign nationals as locally recruited staff, TASS reports.

“We only have staff seconded from Russia and their family members, whom we can also employ as locally recruited staff. We do not employ foreign nationals. At present, we have been instructed to withdraw around 70 staff members,” Krasnitsky said.

The departure of the personnel follows the decision to close the Russian diplomatic mission in Bonn.
