Ukrainian exodus from Poland continues as thousands leave in July

05 September 2026 11:05

The number of Ukrainians holding temporary protection in Poland fell by 8,100 in July to 953,100, RMF24 reported, citing Eurostat data.

The decline followed a reduction of about 6,300 people in June, indicating a continued decrease in the number of Ukrainians registered under temporary protection in Poland.

Germany has traditionally been the main destination for Ukrainians leaving Poland. Increasingly, however, Czechia is also becoming a destination of choice. About 381,000 Ukrainians with temporary protection were in Czechia at the end of June, compared with nearly 1.29 million in Germany.

Other EU countries also host substantial Ukrainian populations under temporary protection, including Spain, with 272,300 people, Romania, with 219,400, and Slovakia, with 149,000.

Despite the decline in Poland, Ukrainians remain the largest group among temporary protection beneficiaries in the European Union. More than 24,000 Ukrainian citizens received temporary protection in June alone.
