British magazine The Face announces closure
The iconic British style and culture magazine The Face announced on March 27 that it will close, sharing the news with readers in a post on Instagram.
“The mission was to honour the magazine's iconic legacy while making people feel excited to be alive at this specific moment in time. We hoped THE FACE might express some positivity for the future, no matter how bleak the headlines can get," the announcement reads, Caliber.Az reports.
The post thanked contributors past and present — including writers, photographers and readers — as well as the broader creative community that inspired the publication.
“All the people who've inspired us—by throwing a party, experimenting with style, picking up a mic or raising a placard. We searched for stories everywhere, from London and New York to Paris, Kingston, Kyiv, Lagos, Gaza, Seoul and Salford. We found that the spirit of the youth is as powerful as ever.”
Launched in 1980, The Face became one of the most influential magazines of its era, helping to define the visual identity of youth culture in the 1980s and 1990s. It played a key role in shaping trends across music, fashion and club culture, providing early exposure to figures such as Kate Moss and documenting movements including acid house and Britpop.
The magazine ceased publication in 2004 before being revived in 2019.
A final run of covers will be released in the coming weeks, marking the end of the publication’s latest chapter.
