Death toll rises to 31 in flooding in northern Nepal PHOTO / UPDATED

The number of deaths in flooding in northern Nepal has reached 31, local police have said.

According to the officials, the floods caused injuries to 93 people, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The latest official figures showed 93 people were rescued.

A powerful flash flood in Nepal has killed at least 17 people and left hundreds of tourists missing.

The Nepal Tourism Board said at least 400 travellers, including foreign nationals, are unaccounted for, Caliber.Az reports, citing CNN.

According to police, the death toll is expected to rise.

Nepal’s foreign minister also said an earthquake triggered a massive landslide that blocked a river and caused a powerful surge downstream.

Helicopters are operating in the disaster zone, but high water levels in some areas are making it difficult for them to land.

The disaster has also affected Tibet. Chinese state media warned of possible heavy loss of life.

A landslide occurred near the Chinese border port of Gyirong, prompting Chinese President Xi Jinping to call for every possible effort to be made to conduct search and rescue operations.
