Ukraine, Saudi Arabia sign defence cooperation agreement PHOTO
On March 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine and Saudi Arabia had signed a key defence cooperation agreement between their respective ministries of defence.
The document was signed ahead of Zelenskyy’s meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ukrainian leader's official Telegram channel.
The agreement lays the groundwork for future contracts, technological collaboration, and investments, while strengthening Ukraine’s international role as a security contributor.
Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine’s willingness to share its expertise and defence systems with Saudi Arabia to enhance civilian protection. “For five years, Ukrainians have been countering attacks using ballistic missiles and drones, similar to those currently employed by the Iranian regime across the Middle East and Gulf region. Saudi Arabia possesses capabilities that Ukraine is interested in. This cooperation can be mutually beneficial,” he said.
The leaders also discussed regional security in the Middle East, Iran’s support from Russia, the state of energy markets, and potential avenues for energy cooperation.
