Finland’s defence chief: Promised aid must reach Ukraine
Finland’s Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen said Helsinki intends to verify whether weapons purchased by NATO countries for Ukraine are being used as intended, stressing that all pledged assistance must be delivered.
Speaking in an interview with Euronews, Häkkänen stated that Finnish authorities will monitor whether United States is adhering to its agreements with European NATO members that have procured weapons for Ukraine from American manufacturers.
“What has been promised to Ukraine must reach Ukraine,” he said.
His remarks follow a report by The Washington Post indicating that the Pentagon is considering redirecting critical military equipment originally intended for Ukraine to the conflict involving Iran.
Häkkänen added that oversight mechanisms are continuously being reviewed. “We constantly assess how funds are being spent and believe the mechanism is working. Of course, if problems arise, we will have to review this,” he said.
