European Commission working on cancellation of Russian gas supplies via Ukraine

The European Commission is working intensively on the complete cancellation of Russian gas supplies via Ukraine.

The EU currently receives about 15 billion cubic metres of Russian gas a year through the Ukrainian gas transport system, TASS cites EC representative Tim McPhee as addressing a briefing in Brussels.

This volume is distributed among Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and a small part goes to Italy.

"The European Commission is working closely with these countries to ensure that they have the necessary gas supply. It is a question of these countries being able to get gas through other pipelines as well as liquefied natural gas, and we are confident that this is possible," McPhee emphasised.
