Sweden allocates over 56 million euros to boost Ukraine's energy system

28 May 2024 15:35

The Swedish government has announced a new energy package for Ukraine, totalling 650 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to over 56 million euros, RBC-Ukraine reports citing the press service of the Swedish government.

This support aims to ensure Ukraine's energy stability, enabling vital public services like schools, hospitals, transportation, water supply, and businesses to operate smoothly.

The funding, administered by Sida on behalf of the government, comprises two components:

  • SEK 500 million via the Energy Community Organisation's Energy Support Fund for Ukraine,
  • SEK 150 million through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The Swedish government emphasizes that the UNDP's portion will expedite the construction of critical energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Urgent needs, including technical equipment, generators, transformers, power plants, and workforce training, will be addressed. Priority will be given to Kharkiv, with support also extended to other regions such as Odesa, Kyiv, and Mykolaiv, reflecting the pressing national requirements.
