Media: Iran arms Hezbollah with advanced weapons

26 July 2024 17:49

Iran has provided Hezbollah with advanced bombs capable of emitting an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), designed to disrupt Israeli communication systems and radar.

The Lebanese militant group, along with its allied factions, is preparing to launch an offensive against Israel in the Golan Heights and Galilee in response to potential Israeli ground operations in southern Lebanon, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.

The warheads now in Hezbollah’s arsenal can be deployed from rocket launchers or attached to drones. These EMP-capable warheads are designed to cripple Israel’s electric grid and communication systems, disrupting radar, aircraft, and ground forces that rely on these technologies. This disruption could significantly impair Israel’s operational capabilities, potentially giving Hezbollah an advantage in future conflicts by neutralizing aerial support and coordination for Israeli ground troops.

Additionally, the source indicated that the US, UK, and any other allies supporting Israel could also be targeted. Iran has been developing other advanced weapons, including a missile designed to break apart into multiple projectiles if intercepted by Israel’s air defenses. These advanced munitions are reportedly also in Hezbollah’s possession.

Since the outbreak of conflict on October 7, numerous weapons have been tested against Israeli targets, with collected data being used to refine their effectiveness. Notably, "ghost drones" developed by Iran and supplied to Hezbollah, along with Islamic Resistance in Iraq and the Houthis in Yemen, have proven highly effective in penetrating Israeli defenses without detection.

Hezbollah and Israel have had a contentious and violent relationship that has evolved over several decades. Hezbollah was founded in Lebanon in response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

Hezbollah received substantial support from Iran, both financially and militarily, and was influenced by the Iranian Revolution’s ideology. Hezbollah's primary aim is the establishment of an Islamic state in Lebanon and the elimination of Israel. The group views Israel as an occupier and an enemy of Islam.
